BEVERLY HILLS - The Beverly Hills City Clerk has certified its 2009 municipal election results for City Council, and former Mayor Barry Brucker has won his re-election bid. Joining him this year on the council will be newcomers Willie Brien and John Mirisch.
Mirisch narrowly beat out incumbent Linda Briskman, following a controversial campaign in which a series of unpleasant emails and robocalls sought to discredit Mirisch. See story
here.
Out of 6,633 ballots (representing 31% of the Beverly Hills voting population), Brucker garnered 2,983 votes (19.38%); Brien 2, 856 votes (18.49%); and Mirisch 2,272 votes (14.11%). Briskman ran a close fourth with 2,169 votes (14.09%).
The results for the other seven candidates were as follows:
Virginia Maas 1,578 (10.25%)
Richard Stone 1,483 (9.63%)
Fran Cohen 1,245 (8.09%)
Michael Hakim 701 (4.50%)
Nili Nathan 316 ( 2.05%)
Brent C. Lilley 274 (1.78%)
Avraham Ross 230 (1.43 %)
The council installation ceremony will take place on March 31.
