Frank Fenton to be sworn in as Beverly Hills' temporary mayor?

BEVERLY HILLS - With the official results of the Beverly Hills March 4 elections still outstanding, current Mayor Barry Brucker has requested that current Vice Mayor Frank Fenton be sworn in as the city’s mayor and Brucker will take on the vice mayor role until the election results are finalized.

Fenton is set to be sworn in by his son – School Board Member Steven Fenton – on March 11 at City Hall as part of a special succession plan, if Brucker’s request is approved by the current council.

Fenton plans to retire from public life after more than 30 years, having held numerous roles in the City of Beverly Hills. He is the City’s only elected official to serve as BHUSD Board Member, Beverly Hills City Treasurer and Beverly Hills City Councilmember.

Fenton also has a lengthy history in community philanthropy. He was chairperson of the Beverly Hills Education Foundation; president and chairperson, the Maple Counseling Center board of directors; president, Beverly Hills American Little League; a strong
supporter and leader with the Beverly Hills Police and Community Together Organization (PACT);a member of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple; director of American Red Cross, West Los Angeles; and a member of Variety Clubs International. He received the Outstanding Community Service Award from the Maple Counseling Center in 1986.

I would strongly object to Mr. Fenton being retained as a "temporary" member and mayor. This entitles the establishment group to which many residents have objected.
Since Mayor Brucker was re-elected, why cannot his term be extended until the results are settled?
