And then there were two...

WESTSIDE L.A. - Former West Hollywood Council member and 42nd District State Assemblyman Paul Koretz, will go head-to-head in the May 19 runoff election with attorney David Vahedi for the Council District 5 position on the Los Angeles City Council.

Vahedi edged out Koretz in the primary by 60 votes, and now that the six candidates have been whittled down to two, both are preparing to fight hard for the council seat.

In the lead up to the March 3 election, nobody was willing to speculate who would come out on top in a closely run race between the six candidates, but most people were confident there would be a run off.

Vahedi ran against incumbent Jack Weiss in 2005, and came into this year’s race with the backing of many of the area’s homeowners association groups, but little political experience. Koretz, on the other hand is steeped in politics and his run for the CD 5 seat surprised many, as Koretz has spent most of his career in West Hollywood.

The run off will be hard fought and at this stage it’s anybody’s guess who will win.
